MYOFASCIAL RELEASE is the gentle but deep pressure on tissue to release the fascial restrictions. The tissue begins to feel like it is MELTING and a RELEASE of pain is felt either at the time or a day or so after the treatment.
FASCIA is the tissue that weaves and wraps like a spiders web in appearance. It provides support, protection and surrounds most structures within the human body, including every cell, muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessels, spinal cord including the Heart, Lung and other organs in the body, creating a three-dimensional web which spreads from head to toe. This soft tissue can become restricted due to injury, repetitive movement, overuse, infections, or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and diminished blood flow, stress and trauma. There is also lots of reasearch being done to show how Emotions are stored in the tissue.
Myofascial restrictions are not shown on standard tests such as x-rays, CT scans or MRI scans, which means they are rarely diagnosed as the cause of pain conditions. However, they may be described as adhesions and this is in need of adequate research. People with fascial restrictions are prescribed medication such as anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants or even anti-epileptics. In some cases, surgery might be offered as a last resort.
The medical approach is to drug patient so they are free from pain but does nothing about the ‘straight-jacket’ that is causing the pain. Only Myofascial Release treats the entire Myofascial body complex eliminating the pressure of the restricted myofascial system that causes the symptoms.
